Mable Update

We cannot believe how much a child can change in such a short amount of time. Mable had her six-month birthday September 18th. She is such a different person.

Mable and Solids
Mable had her first solid food on the day of her baptism September 16th – avocado. Her reaction? You would have thought we had given her a shot of tequila. I felt awful but not too awful. Next we gave her guacamole thinking the lime, garlic, onion and tomato would elicit a different response. Nope. We had been giving her water on her spoon which she gulped down. (That child loves water just like her big cousin Aristotle.) Now the poor girl is hesitant when the spoon comes her way. Is it water or that dreadful avocado?

Last Saturday when we were confident she was not allergic to the avocado we gave her plain sweet potato. Sounds tastier right? She almost threw up. Poor girl she must hate the spoon. Well how about sweet potato and cinnamon? She will definitely like that right? Next I think we will mix avocado and banana.

Mobile Mable
Mable can now move about the house. Last Thursday she pushed herself backwards about three feet. You should have seen how proud she was of herself. She would move a bit and then look up at me. See what I did Momma? Then last weekend Mable was all over the living room grabbing at everything. Andrew calls her “Reverse Crawly.” She scooted over towards some wires under the computer. Uh oh, here we go!

The Mirror & Mable
Mable has always enjoyed looking in the mirror. Just recently it is like a whole new game. She has figured out who she is looking at and laughs and laughs. We have a book titled “Mirror Me” and she cannot get enough of it. Thanks Nova and Shaba. Just yesterday she looked into the mirror and pointed at herself. I tell you that girl is very advanced. Pointing!

She started sleeping on her tummy.
The most important update - she was baptised! (Again, stay tuned.)

Mable is such a delight. We love her.

Mable and I just returned from a leisurely walk. We smelled roses, lavender, rosemary, food cooking. We heard birds chirping, crows cawing, big trucks clamoring, my shoes flip flopping, a goose honking, men talking. We saw bright colored flowers, old red brick buildings, parked car after parked car many of them with The Club. We felt each other’s body parts: tummies touching, my hands on her feet and toes, arms rubbing against one another. We felt the warm sun beating down. I felt hungry, tired, loved. How did Mable feel on the inside? We try to be mindful of the eight senses.
